Customs and police officers detained 17 kg of heroin and over 35 kg of amphetamines in two operations

17 kg of heroin and over 35 kg of amphetamines were detained by customs and police officers in two operations carried out under the authority of the Prosecutor's Office. Operations are linked to increased control at border crossing points. This was announced at a joint press conference in Haskovo by the director of the Customs Agency Georgi Kostov, the chief secretary of the Police Department Mladen Marinov and prosecutors from Haskovo and Bourgas.

Yesterday, 14.05.2017, the customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border customs office detained heroin totaling 1.2 million. BGN. The drug was discovered during a customs check on a bus coming into Bulgaria from Turkey. The drug is hidden in tiles with faience tiles. The total amount of heroin is 17 kg. The boxes were carried by 66-year-old man, who was traveling in the same bus. The man already has a conviction for human trafficking across the border. He is currently detained in the police custody.

Over 35 kg of amphetamine, amounting to 1.1 million. BGN is held at Malko Tarnovo border customs office at the joint actions of customs and border guards. The inspection of a passenger car traveling to Turkey was made on 13 May evening. The drug was hidden in secret compartments in the trunk of the car. The driver, a 48-year-old man from Isperih, is arrested.

Director of Agency "Customs" Georgi Kostov and Commissioner General Mladen Marinov emphasized that the fight against smuggling remains a priority for both institutions.
