DEA representatives congratulate Mr. Georgi Kostov and Bulgarian Customs on the successful interception of 720 kg of heroin at the end of September

The meetings of the Director General of the National Customs Agency (NCA) Mr. Georgi Kostov, who, jointly with Chief Commissioner Hristo Terziyski, Director of General Directorate "National Police", is attending one of the biggest global fora for law-enforcement and customs services, viz. the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference, continue.

 

As part of his visit to the USA, the Director General of the NCA Mr. Georgi Kostov had a working meeting with the DEA Regional Director for Europe Mr. Kevin Scully and the DEA Regional Director for the Middle East Mr. William Warren. A number of specific operational activities for countering drug trafficking along the so-called Balkan route and the undertaking of proactive measures to fight international drug-trafficking, crossing Bulgaria, were discussed. The DEA representatives congratulated the Bulgarian customs on the successful interception of 720 kg of heroin at the end of September 2018 that resounded throughout the global law-enforcement community.

 

During the IACP Conference currently under way, Mr. Georgi Kostov participated in a working discussion with the Director of the FBI Cristopher Wray. This event covered issues, associated with current global security threats. The new priorities of the administration of President Donald Trump in the field of security and the tendency to develop future relations with non-U.S. FBI partner services and bodies were presented.

 

Earlier that day, Mr. Georgi Kostov met Mr. James Soiles, senior counsel at the the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) with the Department of Homeland Security to discuss the opportunities for future training of Bulgarian customs officials. FLETC offers advanced qualification trainings for U.S. federal services and aims at enhancing the capacity of law-enforcement officers to professionally and safely perform their daily duties. This is the largest training center for the qualification of U.S. border security and customs officers. Prior to assuming a management position at the DHS, Mr. Soiles served as DEA Deputy Chief of Operations responsible for all foreign operations of the service.
