Customs officers seized 2325 boxes of cigarettes during four inspections in the Sofia area

Customs officers from “Customs Intelligence and Investigation’ DG seized 2325 boxes (46 500 pieces) of cigarettes during four inspections in the Sofia area. The cigarettes were traveling by consignments to the United Kingdom in violation of the Law on Excise Duties and Tax Warehouses.

1386 boxes of cigarettes with Bulgarian excise stamp concealed in panels were found by customs officers from “Customs Intelligence and Investigation’ DG when checking a consignment from panels. The goods had to travel from Sofia to the UK in four boxes. When checking on 30.10.2019 in the Sofia area, customs officers found that 1386 boxes (27 720 pieces) of cigarettes from three brands with Bulgarian excise label were hidden in 11 of the 12 panels for which the carrier has not been notified and they were not accompanied by documents as required by  the Law on Excise Duties and Tax Warehouses.

Last week in another case, customs officers found 1814 boxes (36 280 pieces) of cigarettes, again hidden in panels.

In the meantime on another inspection carried out jointly with police officers, customs officers identified three consignments sent by three different persons, which contained a total of 939 boxes (18,780 pieces) of cigarettes with Bulgarian excise labels, which were also not accompanied by documents according the Law on Excise Duties and Tax Warehouses.
