Customs officers found more than 3 kg of cocaine during an inspection of a truck leaving the country. The inspection is part of anti-smuggling operation by National Customs Agency, DG Border Police, DG Combating Organized Crime and National Revenue Agency. 
On 11.07.2024, a truck with a Turkish registration number, driven by a Turkish citizen, arrived at the Kapitan Andreevo BCP highway on the "Outgoing trucks" route. The vehicle traveling from the Netherlands and Germany through Bulgaria to Turkey has been selected for a thorough customs inspection. In the course of the control actions, the customs officers from the department "Combating drug trafficking" discovered that three packages wrapped in stretch film were hidden in the refrigerator located in the driver's cabin under food products. Upon opening one of the packages, they found the presence of a white powdery substance, which, in a field test, reacted positively to cocaine. The total amount of cocaine found and seized is 3,240 grams worth BGN 1,018,656, estimated for the needs of the judicial system.
During the inspection, the driver tried to escape in the direction of Turkey and was detained by the customs officers.
In this case, a pre-trial proceeding was initiated by an investigative customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
