Customs officers at Kapitan Andreevo BCP seized over 1.6 kg smuggled gold jewelry

Contraband gold jewelry worth over BGN 146,000 was detained by the customs officials of the Kapitan Andreevo BCP

On 09/27/2022, around 01:20, a Turkish-registered bus with 24 passengers arrived at the Kapitan Andreevo BCP on its way from Turkey through Bulgaria to Romania. The bus with a Turkish citizen driver has been selected for a thorough customs inspection. Some of the passengers declared that they were carrying boxes of cigarettes, which were confiscated due to exceeding the duty-free import norms of 2 boxes. During the inspection, a customs officer noticed that one of the passengers, F.D. -Romanian citizen, trying to avoid customs inspection. During a personal examination, it was found that the man had hidden around his waist under an elastic belt, 10 cardboard boxes containing articles of yellow metal - rings, medallions, bracelets, chains, necklaces, earrings. According to the expertise made by an expert, the ornaments with a total weight of 1633 grams are gold and are worth BGN 146,970.

The contraband jewelery has been seized. In this case, a pre-trial proceeding was initiated by an investigative customs inspector under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office. Regarding the Romanian citizen with the initials F.D. a remand has been taken for monetary bail and a ban on leaving the country, except with the permission of the supervising prosecutor.

Over the past two months, the customs officers of the Kapitan Andreevo BCP have detained 12,733.43 grams of gold items worth about BGN 1,250,000.
