Over 300 000 contraband cigarettes were found in a truck with furniture by customs officers at Lesovo BCP
A large quantity of 325 000 pieces (16 250 boxes) of smuggled cigarettes was found by customs officers at Lesovo BCPt in a truck transporting furniture.
The truck with a foreign registration arrives in Lesovo BCP on January 26, 2026 on an inbound route into the country. In the customs control area, the driver, a Turkish citizen, presented documents stating that he was transporting packaged furniture from Turkey to the Netherlands in transit through Bulgaria and had nothing else to declare. After an operational analysis, customs officers carried out a thorough inspection of the cargo and the vehicle. During the inspection, the inspectors discovered cartons of smuggled cigarettes hidden among the declared furniture in the cargo area.
325 000 pieces (16 250 boxes) of cigarettes of various brands were seized, with a total value of about 50 000 euros. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case, which are being conducted by an investigating customs inspector, under the supervision of the Yambol District Prosecutor's Office.
