A criminal group for distributing marijuana worth more than 2 million euros has been neutralized
In pre-trial proceedings, led by the Burgas District Prosecutor's Office, an organized criminal group dealing with the distribution of high-risk drugs was neutralized. The participants in the criminal group were detained in a successful operation conducted under the development of SANS, under the leadership of the Burgas District Prosecutor's Office, and with the participation of officials from the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP). The operation was also carried out with the assistance of the Customs Agency.
During the operation carried out in settlements in the regions of Yambol and Burgas, more than 250 kilograms of dried grass mass – marijuana – were found. The drug was placed in a truck and hidden behind layers of paper. The vehicle was parked in a warehouse in Zimnitsa village, Yambol province. In the same place, a helicopter was also found, with which it is possible that marijuana was transported outside the country.
A total of 5 persons have been implicated in criminal liability for participating in the organised criminal group, 4 of whom have already been remanded in custody. Among the detainees was the leader of the group, a 39-year-old man from Burgas. He attempted to abscond, but was detained during a GDBOP operation at the entrance to Sofia. Three other persons were identified at the time of the drug reloading.
The total value of the detected drug amounts to more than EUR 2 million in litigation prices. The drug was distributed in nylon cuts weighing between 600 and 900 grams. According to the investigation, the marijuana was intended for disposal in the Republic of Turkey. Work on the case is ongoing, and numerous investigative actions are to be carried out, including establishing the ownership of the helicopter and who piloted it. Details of the case were announced today at a briefing in Burgas.
