Customs officers at Kapitan Andreevo BCP found nearly 1.5 million contraband cigarettes in interior doors
The customs officers at Kapitan Andreevo BCP detained during an inspection of a truck 1 454 000 pieces (72 700 boxes) of contraband cigarettes, hidden in the inner cavities of interior doors.
On 30.11.2023, a truck with foreign registration, driven by a Turkish citizen, arrived at the Kapitan Andreevo BCP on the inbound route into the country. The driver with the initials E.D. declared that he was transporting furniture from Turkey to France and Germany. The vehicle has been selected for a thorough customs inspection. In the course of control actions with specialized X-ray equipment, inspectors identify areas of suspicious density in the declared cargo. A physical inspection was carried out, during which the customs officials found a large quantity of cigarettes with a Turkish excise label inside the interior chipboard doors.
A total of undeclared and hidden 1 454 000 pieces (72 700 boxes) of cigarettes of three different commercial brands were found. The market value of the seized tobacco products is BGN 439 650. In the case, a pre-trial proceeding was initiated by an investigating customs inspector, which is being conducted under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office.
