Customs officers found undeclared currency with the equivalent of BGN 1,118,221 during an inspection of a cargo van leaving the country.

On 03.07.2022, at around 04:40 a.m., a cargo minibus with Turkish registration, traveling from Great Britain via Bulgaria to Turkey, arrived at Kapitan Andreevo BCP. The vehicle with a driver - a Turkish citizen, has been selected for a thorough customs inspection. During the inspection customs officers found packages containing British and Scottish pounds of different denominations hidden in purpose-built caches and factory cavities.The total amount of discovered undeclared currency is 484,160 British pounds and 11,240 Scottish pounds with the leva equivalent of BGN 1,118,221. In the case, a fast-track procedure was initiated by an investigative customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office Haskovo-territorial department - Svilengrad.

The driver Sh.A., 30 years old, a Turkish citizen, was brought in as an accused and detained for a period of up to 72 hours by decree of a prosecutor from the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office.

From the beginning of the year to the present, the customs officers of MP Kapitan Andreevo have discovered currency with the BGN equivalent of over 12,100,000 BGN.
