Contraband gold ornaments worth over BGN 60 000 were seized by customs officers at Malko Tarnovo BCP during an inspection of a car with Bulgarian registration.

The vehicle arrived at Malko Tarnovo BCP on 09/03/2022 on the route "Inbound passenger cars and buses" from Turkey. The driver and the passenger in the car - a family of Bulgarian citizens - stated that they had nothing to declare. During the subsequent inspection, the customs inspectors found in the pockets of the driver's clothes with the initials I.A four packages of jewelry made of yellow metal. In the clothes of the woman with the initials S.A. two more packages of yellow metal jewelry were found.

A total of 794 grams of undeclared jewelry items were found - rings, bracelets, earrings, medallions, etc., which, according to the initial examination by an expert, are made of 14-karat gold and have a total value of BGN 63 520.

In this case, a pre-trial proceeding was initiated by an investigative customs inspector from TD Bourgas Customs, which is being conducted under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Burgas.
