37,600 cigarettes detained by customs officers in the area of the Danube Bridge - Rousse BCP
A total of 37,600 cigarettes with a valid Bulgarian excise label were detained by customs officers in the area of the Danube Bridge-Rousse BCP in two cases.
On June 6, 2022, around 10:30 pm, a passenger minibus traveling from Bulgaria to Germany was stopped for a thorough customs inspection.
During the inspection, the customs officers found a large number of boxes of cigarettes with a valid Bulgarian excise label, hidden behind the upholstery on the ceiling and the left side of the vehicle. Cigarettes were also found under the front passenger seat, as well as between two other seats.
For excise goods, the driver of the van did not present a simplified accompanying document under the Excise Duties and Tax Warehouses Act. He admitted to the customs inspectors that he bought the cigarettes from several stores in Bulgaria and transported them to Germany for sale.
A total of 1,580 packs of cigarettes (31,600 pieces) found in the van were seized by the customs authorities, and the driver was issued an act for the established administrative violation.
In the second case, customs inspectors stopped, also in the area of the Danube Bridge-Rousse BCP, for a thorough inspection of a car and found hidden cigarettes in the factory cavities on the doorsteps of the car, as well as in the driver's luggage. All tobacco products are affixed with a valid Bulgarian excise label, and the driver of the vehicle stated that he had placed them on the doorsteps of the car and in his luggage with the intention of transporting them to Poland for personal use.
Customs officers seized all 6,000 pieces (300 boxes) of cigarettes and the driver was issued an administrative violation report.
