Customs officers at Lesovo BCP detained more than 100 000 “branded” goods

A record amount of 109 508 textile products with the designations of world brands were detained by the customs officers at Lesovo BCP during an inspection of a truck.
The inspection is part of the overall anti-smuggling operations with the participation of officers from National Customs Agency, the DG Border Police, the DG Combating Organized Crime and the National Revenue Agency.
On 02.07.2024, the cargo combination with foreign registration arrived at Lesovo BCP on an inbound route into the country, driven by a Polish citizen. The driver presented documents that he was transporting parcels of textiles from Turkey to the Netherlands via Bulgaria. The vehicle has been selected by the customs officers for a thorough inspection. During the inspection, the inspectors found among the declared goods a total of 109 508 sports sets, hats, T-shirts, shorts, underwear and socks with logos of protected global brands.
The "branded" textiles have been detained in compliance with Regulation (EU) No. 608/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of intellectual property rights. The owners of the respective trademarks will be notified for this case.
This is the largest amount of "branded" goods found in one vehicle at the Lesovo BCP in recent years.
In the first six months of 2024 alone, more than 1.095 million commercial goods were detained by TD Bourgas Customs for violating intellectual property rights.
