Nearly 5,000,000 pieces of smuggled cigarettes were seized by customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo BCP
4,989,400 pieces (249,470 boxes) of smuggled cigarettes worth 958,756 euros were discovered by customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo BCP during an inspection of a truck entering the country from Turkey.
On February 11, 2026, a semi-trailer tractor with a Turkish registration arrived at the checkpoint. The driver, a Turkish citizen, presented documents for the goods being transported - aluminum foil, ceramics and metal drills and awls, from Turkey to the Netherlands. After a risk analysis, customs officers selected the truck for a thorough customs inspection, including with X-ray equipment, during which unusual densities in the transported cargo wer noted. During the control actions in the cargo area, it was found that most of the boxes were filled with stacks of cigarettes of different brands, all with Turkish excise stamps, instead of the declared goods. The total quantity of tobacco products discovered was 4,989,400 pieces (249,470 boxes) of cigarettes worth 958,756 euros.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
