Smuggled gold over 110,000 euros were seized customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo BCP

Over 1,300 kg of smuggled gold was seized by customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo BCP during an inspection of a truck driver leaving the country.
On 08.05.2026, a tractor with a semi-trailer with a foreign registration arrived at the post. The driver, a Turkish citizen, presented regular documents for the goods being transported from Lithuania through Bulgaria and Turkey to Jordan, and did not declare the transportation of other items and currency values. The customs officer, who checked the cargo documents and weighed it with an electronic scale, noticed the restless behavior of the driver, who was subjected to a personal search. During the inspection, small packages containing yellow metal items were found in both pockets of the jacket the man was wearing. In one part of the packages, three castings and one bracelet with a total weight of 1071.60 grams were found, and in the others – 2 bars and 8 coins with a weight of 264.75 grams. According to the expert examination, the discovered items are made of gold with different carats with a total weight of 1336.35 grams with a total value of 113,066.6 euros.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated in the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
The illegally transported gold objects have been seized.
The driver of the truck - M.B., 44 years old, a Turkish citizen, has been brought to criminal liability for a crime under Art. 242, Para. 1, b "D", in connection with Art. 18, Para. 1 of and Art. 251, Para. 2 of the Criminal Code. A measure of non-detention, a cash bail, as well as a "Ban on leaving the Republic of Bulgaria", except with permission from the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office, was taken against the man, and in addition, his document for traveling abroad was temporarily revoked.
