981 bottles containing a total of 13,342 kg freon banned for import into the European Union were seized by customs officers at Lesovo BCP. The freon was found during a customs check on 07.02.2019 in a truck entering the country from Turkey. The driver has declared that he is transporting refrigerant gas from Turkey to Romania. Customs officers found that the cargo declared as "refrigerant gas" contains and 981 bottles / 13.6 kg in each bottle / freon "R 22" - a substance banned for introduction into and use within the European Union, pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1005/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council on substances that deplete the ozone layer.
Territorial Directorate Yuzhna Morska in Burgas has reported to the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water – Burgas for the case. According to the opinion of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water in Burgas, the detained freon "R 22" in 981 bottles is banned in the EU and subject to destruction in compliance with the Waste Management Act.
