Customs officers at Malko Tarnovo BCP found undeclared 245 255 euros and 807.14 grams of gold items during an inspection of a car traveling to Turkey.
On 11.01.2023, around 19.20, a car with foreign registration arrived at the Malko Tarnovo border crossing on the exit road for cars and buses. At the customs control area, the driver and his companion, Romanian citizens, stated that they had nothing to declare. During the subsequent customs check, the inspectors found wads of euro banknotes in the personal bag of the passenger in the car. In the course of the control actions, wads of currency and objects of yellow metal were found stuck around the passenger's waist. Objects of yellow metal and currency were also found under the back seat of the car.
A total of undeclared currency in the amount of 245 255 euros with a BGN equivalent of 479 677 BGN was found, as well as 807.14 grams of yellow metal products - used jewelry and ingots. According to the expertise carried out by an expert, all yellow metal products are made of 14 karat gold (sample 585) and are worth BGN 51 576.
The undeclared currency and gold articles for a total of BGN 531 253 were seized. The Romanian citizen traveling in the car with the initials D.G. has indicated in his written explanations that the entire amount of currency and gold is his property.
In this case, a pre-trial proceeding was initiated by an investigating customs inspector from TD Burgas Customs, which is being conducted under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Burgas.
