Officers from DG ‘Customs Investigation and Intelligence’ (DG CII) seized 30 000 кg of waterpipe tobacco without documents under the Excise Duties and Tax Warehouses Act (EDTWA) in the area of Dunav Most 2 BCP near Vidin and in a warehouse in Sofia.

On 02.05.2019, around 16.00 hrs, in the area of Dunav Most at Vidin officers of DG CII diverted for an inspection a truck with Moldavian registration plate, travelling for Western Europe. According to the words of the two drivers – one of them with Potuguese identity documents, and the other – with Albanian ones, the load represented dried fruits. When scanned with an X-ray scanner, an image was found, which didn’t correspond to the good declared, and at the following physical inspection the customs officers detected in the load compartment 19 pallets with 14 256 packages of 1 kg, or a total of 14 256 kg of waterpipe tobacco.   

Officers from DG CII immediately carried out operational and search activities and established the place for loading the good – a hired warehouse on the territory of the capital, which was used as a depot and has no registration under the Excise Duties and Tax Warehouses Act. To the moment of the check in the warehouse were established other 15 744 kg of waterpipe tobacco without excise labels. And in a trailer, parked in front of the warehouse halle, were found also 2000 boxes of cigarettes, brand MAYFAIR, without excise label for excise duty paid.   

Pre-trial proceedings were initiated.
