Ten packages with 11.420 kg of marijuana were detained by the customs officers of the Lesovo BCP. The narcotic substance was transported by a cargo van with a foreign registration, traveling from Germany to Turkey via Bulgaria.
The vehicle arrived at Lesovo BCP on an outbound route from the country on 26.01.2025. The driver, a Turkish citizen, submitted documents that he was transporting preparations and animal feed from Germany to Turkey and stated that he had nothing else to declare.
During the inspection of the van with X-ray equipment, the customs inspectors mark an area in the declared cargo with a different density. The van is directed for physical inspection in a specialized hall for thorough customs checks. While waiting for the inspection, the driver was observed acting suspiciously by throwing packages from the vehicle. It was found that the packages contained a dry grassy substance which, in the field drug test, reacted to marijuana.
10 vacuumed polyethylene bags with a total gross weight of 11.420 kg of marijuana were seized. The value of the narcotic substance amounts to about BGN 180 000.
The driver, a Turkish citizen with the initials Y. Y., was detained and a pre-trial proceeding was initiated in the case by an investigating customs inspector, which is being conducted under the supervision of the Yambol District Prosecutor's Office.
