Undeclared currency worth over BGN 2,030,000 was found by the customs officers of the Kapitan Andreevo BCP
Customs officers found undeclared currency with the equivalent of BGN 2,039,645 during three inspections of a truck and two buses.
In one of the cases, undeclared currency was discovered on 30/03/2023, when a truck, with Turkish registration, traveling from Great Britain to Iraq arrived at the checkpoint. The truck, driven by a Turkish citizen, was selected for a thorough customs inspection, during which packets of British and Scottish pound banknotes of different denominations were found in a factory cavity located in the refrigeration unit. The total amount of discovered currency is 366,670 British pounds and 294,040 Scottish pounds with a total BGN equivalent of BGN 1,465,718.
A few days earlier, on 26.03.2023, customs officers selected for a thorough inspection a bus traveling from Romania through Bulgaria to Turkey. During a personal examination of one of the passengers, a Turkish citizen, euro banknotes of different denominations were found on his body. The total amount of discovered currency is 100,000 euros with the BGN equivalent of 195,583 BGN.
The third case in which undeclared currency was found was from 24/03/2023. During a thorough inspection of a bus traveling from Romania to Turkey in a natural cavity to the left of the stairs, customs officers found undeclared 175,440 euros and 19,600 US dollars. The total BGN equivalent of the discovered money is BGN 378,344.
In the cases, rapid proceedings were initiated by investigative customs inspectors under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo - Territorial Department - Svilengrad.
