The organisation of the movement through Zlatarevo BCP towards the Republic of North Macedonia is changing

From 16 April 2026, passenger and freight traffic – exit from Bulgaria and entry to the Republic of North Macedonia via the Zlatarevo border crossing point – will be reorganised by routing it via a temporary asphalt road connection to the ‘north’-‘oversized cargo’ route.  At this stage, the current organization of passage and control for entry from the Republic of North Macedonia into Bulgaria is maintained.
The change in the organisation of the traffic is necessary because of the already started works on the overall reconstruction and modernisation of the Zlatarevo border crossing point, which will increase the capacity of the checkpoint.
The plan provides for the collection of a single line of customs control, customs clearance operations of goods, processes for measuring the mass of road vehicles, the authorisation regime, and vignette control. The repair will last 180 days, with three routes (two for cars and buses, and one for heavy goods vehicles) in each direction. A new two-storey administrative building, a common metal pitched roof structure, and district lighting will be built. The project also envisages the repair of the hall for thorough customs inspection, delivery and installation of new cabins and sanitary facilities for those passing in both directions, as well as the construction of the entire adjoining water supply, sewerage, and communication infrastructure.
